I found some !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! at SummitRacing.com for $56 each. Along with a set of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! from TireRack.com at $106 a tire it looks like I’ll be saving enough money over the American Racing wheels to be able to afford a new set of shoes for Veronica when I get paid on thursday. But there is one hitch to this whole plan; I cant afford a new spare yet. So I’ll have to go without a spare for a month or two. Ive never needed my spare, so I’ll probably be fine, but it makes me a little nervous.

Why not just keep one of the takeoffs/old wheels as a spare? Wouldn't something be better than nothing, even in a pinch?

You might want to check Discount Tire for the tires. They’re $119 apiece in that size (Cooper AT/3s are $115), but they have free shipping.

Discount tire will usually price match tire rack as well.

Fair enough. I’ve had 5 sets of Coopers on various vehicles and have yet to have any issues. Just put some AT/3s on our Envoy earlier this year and really love them so far.

If I remember rightly your Ranger is RWD? If so, carry a spare. If you blow a front tyre, put the spare on. If you blow a rear then you swap a good front to the back, and put your .5” smaller spare on the front. You’ll get some lazy pull from the side with the smaller wheel on, but it’s better than being stranded.

Just keep 2 in the back of the bed. So if you do get a flat you will have the same wheels on the same axle of you change each side. Might drive weird but at least your not stranded and it would only be for a few miles.

This is much better than my idea.

Can confirm that this works just fine. I inherited my grandfather’s ‘96 Ranger when he stopped driving and we keep it around now as a spare vehicle/junk hauler/etc. He put new tires on it shortly before I got it and he was too cheap to get the proper size. As a result the front tires are a good bit smaller than the rears. It looks stupid, but drives fine. If I cared more about it, I’d get new tires, but like I said, it’s just for hauling junk occasionally.

If you are going this route, be sure to lock them to the bed with a cable so they don’t roll away on their own.

Yesssssssss.
Keep an old wheel as a spare. If it gets you home once, it did its job. Arent you just RWD? If you get a flat it the rear, as complicated as it sounds, shuffle everything around so the rears have the same size and put the oddball up front and you dont mess up the diff.
Unless you plan on getting a flat often, keep one with you until you get the same size spare. I wish I had room for a full size spare in the HEMIWagon, I would keep a winter or summer tire with me just in case. Luckily Ive only needed the donut once, hopefully I dont really need it again.

I have almost the same wheels as my summer wheels on my Ranger, only in the Cragar version. Note about the Grabber AT2’s: Make sure your alignment is good and you stay up on rotating them. I see a good number of these tires at work and they seem to like to get choppy wear across the tread. Don’t get me wrong, great tire, but they can be very picky.
